WUNDERWEH

Sometimes you just have to invent words, when the standard dictionary fails to provide you with adequate choices. Especially in German language it is surprisingly easy. On request to create a word to name “a feeling of longing for something magical that we don’t fully believe in, but still carry inside us anyway — because the act of believing in it still lifts us up and keeps us warm” – Wunderweh had been born. Now it is time, to use it unprecedented in human history in the very first Sonnet I have ever written.

Wunderweh

by Grexxen (28.07.2026)

I carry wonder where belief grows thin,
longing for the possible, undefined,
where knowing and unknowing are akin,
my restless heart conspires against the mind.

The pain-filled chest still aches for something more,
as miracles are mirrors made of hope,
and distance keeps the tender places sore,
uncertain patience teaches me to cope.

But still I smile as maybe’s warmth unfolds,
for pain can prove that something there is real,
and while no inner certainty yet holds,
Wunderweh is a welcome ache to feel.

I cannot call the miracle entire,
but walk through wonder, carried by desire.
