Darkness may be the absence of light, but it does not mean that it is devoid of beauty and wonders one’s eyes are simply not able to see. This challenge had been brought forth by the fantastic writer Grow.yz .

Abyss
by Grexxen (11.06.2026)
If you stare long enough into the abyss,
the abyss also stares back at you.
For what true darkness holds as true,
thy heart can grasp, what eyes shall miss.
In the ever absence of guiding lights,
wonders stay hidden, yet not erased.
And while no soul had clearly gazed
upon the many wonders and delights,
the brightest black displays its grace.
Veiled walls ornamented by gemstones galore,
like calligraphy recounting obscured lore,
full of endless nights, full of never-days.
And beauteous stands the silent choir
of gentle swaying flowers, free of doom.
Proudly raised towards the velvet gloom,
their fragrance through all void aspire.
Alas, amidst the petalled blossom bed,
an arch of truth twists itself into shape
of what lies beyond the light's escape
and Norns' and Moirai's woven thread.
In its very center, crooked and dented,
lies a surface smooth and turbidly clear,
reflecting what is hated, what is dear,
what is loved and what is still lamented.
Mirror, mirror, undoubtedly frail.
Yet effortlessly it echoes in its sphere
all fortitudes of those who might appear
before its own deep shine without fail.
I invite thee to take a look, gentle as a first kiss.
For if you stare long enough into the abyss
forever cloaked, it reveals thy human beauty true
as the abyss also stares with tenderness back at you.
