YOU

Words are a limiting factor when talking about experience, awe and emotions. We can indeed try to circumscribe, yet the true nature of the very thing is doomed by dictionaries mimicking the subjective perception.

This poem is AABB.

You

Nervous fingers tap in unease on the writer’s desk at night.
Long he had planned to slumber, yet slowly dawns the morning light.
Words and phrases are his weapons, rhymes and wit his way to smite;
Now he despairs as he had been summoned to an irresolvable fight.

What started as an innocent inquiry led to conflict with himself.
Thousand books full words and wonder laughing from the dusty shelf
as he writhes and coils and struggles to put to words what he was tasked;
Bereft of qualifying guidance in a sea of endless purpose unmasked.

Not that he lacks inspiration, nor does the inkwell dry out fast -
countless papers he had filled and crumpled in hours past.
Every grandeur and sophistication his mind conjured in vain,
left him unsatisfied with a hole in his stomach, heart and brain.

He starts talking sternly to himself just like looking for advice:
“How to describe the reminiscing smell at a new sunrise?
How to depict the twinkling facets of the gentlest soul?
How to articulate an end when the very path is the goal?”

“How to pronounce dark brown eyes deeper than a mystic grove?
How to excerpt the warm embrace of a fleshly treasure-trove?
How to enunciate the loss of gravity when seeing a smile?
How to write about music colouring the very air for a while?

“How to name the pressure before the bursting of the heart?
How to compose the fulfilling sadness of being apart?
How to pen a sense of self found in a someone dear?
How to summarize perfection descended upon here?”

Suddenly the fog is lifting from the writer’s tired eyes;
he had almost succumbed to the solution in disguise.
For his empty pages do not need words and words galore.
He simply writes down “YOU” and was smiling evermore!
